CPL Training and Experience

A good case can be made for the need to attend a CPL Training Class even if you do not intend to "carry" the handgun.

Carrying a handgun and driving a car have much in common.

1. Both can result in accidents, injury and death. That is proven on a daily bases.

2. Usually good "driving habits" are gained through drivers education, and experience.

3. Sometimes the "accident" is due to the other person.

Convenience and availability

You do not need a concealed pistol permit to defend yourself or loved ones with a firearm, you need a firearm.  A concealed pistol permit allows you the convenience of having a handgun available at the time you may need it for self defense. That could be good or bad depending on your training, knowledge and experience.  (your hands are on the wheel)

Rules of the road

The rules of self defense with a firearm apply to all who own or use a firearm to defend themselves or another.  If you own a handgun or any firearm you are liable for your actions no matter how much prior training or experience. Just like driving, it does not matter if you drive once a year or every day, you have to know the laws. Most people do not know the laws of self defense with a firearm until they complete a CPL training class.

 Prior Experience

Usually the more experienced driver will have less chance of being involved in an accident that is due to themselves or another.

The person that does not have a CPL and owns a firearm is more likely to make a mistake do to the following:

The person with a CPL and no additional training and experience usually has the following limitations:

Think of it like this.  They may know the concept of driving (carrying a handgun) but have never really driven a car in traffic (carried a handgun) after getting there license and they have not have had the experience necessary to make good decisions while driving (carrying a handgun), possible life or death decisions.

Training and experience improve your driving knowledge, skill and decision making

The class is "Drivers Ed" for handguns with a different end results - You will never really "drive" before going to the street.

The end results is ----

· You will know the laws and the theory use of force

But--

· NO decision making

· NO reality based training

· NO drawing from a holster

· NO  experience

· At the end: the theory of CPL carry and the ability to stop an attack from a piece of paper (target) in necessary.

Carrying a handgun with little or no experience can result in the following:

·       Handgun dependency

·       Decision making errors

·       Tactical errors

Your job - Knowledge and Skill and reality based training

Fill the gap with job specific reality based - training concealed carry self defense
