Special note: we are evaluating the need of a women's only concealed pistol class.

The class date and time will be established based on the requests we receive.

The state CPL training and qualification requirements are the same for all candidates male or female.

Female considerations are: Handgun size, operation, such as trigger pull, operating the slide of a semi auto and management of recoil.

We have a wide selection of handguns available at the class and demonstrate specific operating requirements and how they may affect you choice

State of Michigan application requirements

This course meets the requirements of the new CCW law (Public Act 381) effective on July 1, 2001. and Public Act 719, effective July 1, 2003. This course complies with section 5j of 1927 PA 372 effective October 1, 2004

State of Michigan Concealed Pistol Training Course (CCW)

This CCW training course is designed to teach the students about the legal, practical and moral application of carrying and using a handgun for self defense.

Learn firearms law, legal liability and the use of deadly force. Learn safe basic self defense shooting skills and handgun operation.

Shooting Skills

Demonstrate safe and competent handgun operation and shooting skills

There is no speed shooting or combat techniques

Multiple shot placement at 10, 15 and 21 ft.

Target size: 81/2 x 14 (legal size paper)

Qualification Standards Include:

1. Pass a 55 question written test See class preparation link. You learn more with our CPL Head Start program

2. Pass the MCOLES CCW basic pistol safety training assessment course of fire.

Minimum shooting skill requirements: The student must have the basic skill requirements to place 15 consecutive shots on a legal size sheet of paper (8 1/2 x 14) at a 15 distance.

Course of Fire

50 rounds minimum (This is the minimum requirements, more may training may be necessary to qualify) 100 rounds is recommended

Target Size 8.5x14 (Legal paper)

All shooting is from a standing position using two hands and normal sights.

Target 15 ft

12 rounds (6X2)

Target 21 ft

12 rounds (6X2)

Target 10ft

Point and Shoot

9 rounds (3x3)

Qualification

Target 15 ft

15 rounds (5x3)

Eye and ear protection is required. We encourage you to bring your own

We supply eye and ear protection for those that do not have them. (There is no charge)

Shooting skill information

The applicant must demonstrate the ability to safely operate the handgun and fire consistent shots at a maximum distance of 21 ft at a legal size paper target.
Live fire is required to qualify for the CPL course.
Simulated or other forms of target shooting cannot be used to qualify
Any caliber of handgun can be used.
The applicant is not required to own a handgun
Prior handgun shooting experience is not required but is a benefit to the applicant
There is no rapid fire or drawing form the holster

The goal of the range portion is to teach the student how to safely operate and shoot a handgun.

Safety and basic shooting skill is the focus of the range portion of the class.

If you don't know how to shoot a handgun we will teach you.

3 options are available to the applicant to meet the shooting skill requirements.

1. Attend the 3 hour CPL range preparation class. This can be a private class or in a small group.

2. Attend the CPL training and receive the training allowed in the time available for the class.

If the shooting skills cannot be achieved in the class range time.

3. Additional range time can be scheduled.
