Our Mission

Michigan Handgun Academy a professional handgun training organization that will provide basic through advanced firearms training for basic shooting safety, home protection, concealed carry and other self defense requirements. we will provide you the means and methods of protecting your life with a handgun. We will educate and train you in the latest techniques of personal protection and self defense.

Carrying a concealed handgun is a privilege in Michigan and with this privilege comes a responsibility to be aware, not only of the common sense rules of safe firearm handling, but the laws that affect how, when and where you can carry your firearm, and how to properly use the handgun to defend yourself or your family.

At this time we do not require advanced payment for the class. You may pay at the time of training.

This policy will continue as long as people the keep their appointment for the scheduled class. We ask that you please advise us ASAP if you have to change a date.

State of Michigan Concealed Pistol Training Course (CCW)

This course meets the requirements of the new CCW law (Public Act 381) effective on July 1, 2001. and Public Act 719, effective July 1, 2003. This course complies with section 5j of 1927 PA 372.

The CCW course meets and exceeds the Michigan State Police Concealed Pistol Training Objectives.

CCW Course Description:

This CCW training course is designed to teach the students about the legal, practical and moral application of carrying and using a handgun for self defense. Learn firearms law, legal liability and the use of deadly force. Learn safe basic self defense shooting skills and handgun operation.

Shooting Skills

Demonstrate safe and competent handgun operation and shooting skills

Multiple shot placement at 10, 15 and 21 ft.

Target size: 81/2 x 14 (legal size paper)

Qualification Standards Include:

1. Pass a 55 question written test See class preparation link

2. Pass the MCOLES CCW basic pistol safety training assessment course of fire.

Shooting skill requirements The student must have the basic skill requirements to place 15 consecutive shots on a legal size sheet of paper (8 1/2 x 14) at a 15 distance.

Head Start Program

The CPL "Head Start Program" provides additional study material that is specific for the class. To access this information the CPL applicant must register for the class and pre-pay the appropriate registration fee. To participate click here

Minimum shooting standards are required to qualify for the Michigan State CPL license
